Description
The bundle-duct interaction (BDI) occurs in highly irradiated wire-wrapped FBR fuel assembly due to the swelling difference between the cladding and duct. This is one of the life-limiting factors of the high burn up fuel assembly. JNC has developed the computer code 'BANBOO' to analyze bundle deformation of under BDI conditions using the finite element method. This code models the major deformation mechanism of the bundle, and its verification and improvement has been made on the basis of the result of the out-of-pile bundle compression test and irradiation data of the overseas fast reactor. This paper describes the outline of the code, verification result using the out-pile bundle compression test data and future improvements. (author)
