Oncological staging currently includes an FDG-PET from the base of the skull to the middle of the thigh. Only in patients with malignant melanoma or cutaneous lymphoma is the entire body examined. The otherwise usually limited protocol is intended to shorten the examination time and reduce radiation exposure. But important brain features can be overlooked, Franceschi et al. stated.

Das onkologische Staging umfasst derzeit eine FDG-PET von der Schädelbasis bis zur Mitte des Oberschenkels. Nur bei Patienten mit malignem Melanom oder kutanen Lymphomen wird der gesamte Körper untersucht. Das sonst üblicherweise limitierte Protokoll soll die Untersuchungszeit verkürzen und die Strahlenbelastung vermindern. Doch dadurch können wichtige Hirnbefunde übersehen werden, stellten Franceschi et al. fest.Additional details
