Preparation of Y-Ba-Cu-O superconducting tape by pyrolysis of organic acid salts

Description

Y-Ba-Cu-O Superconductor has been variously studied since it was discovered, and is the to be one of the most promising materials in view of practical application. In these studies, YBa2Cu3Oy (123 phase) compound is mainly investigated. However, it is known that the 123 phase is poor in water resistance and unstable in the number of oxygen contained in its lattice, so it is liable to be deteriorated in properties. Since the oxygen content is remarkably reduced in the temperature higher than approx 400 degrees C, it is know to be difficult to process this compound at high temperature. The authors succeeded in forming a film of 124 phase Y-Ba-Cu-O superconductor on a silver substrate at atmospheric pressure, by pyrolysis of organic acid salts. Further, superconducting tape as long as 6 m could be manufactured. This paper describes the properties of the 124 phase superconducting tape
