Radioactive releases inside CANDU nuclear power plants during operating life

  • 1. Nuclear Department, Center of Technology and Engineering for Nuclear Projects, PO Box 5204 MG-4, R-76900 Bucharest, (Romania)

Description

The NPP (Nuclear Power Plant) personnel is exposed both to process system sources (contained sources) and radioactive background due to air and surface contamination. The operational release from NPP system containing radioactive effluents are presented. Air and surfaces contamination sources in the access areas of the plant personnel are analysed. Two kinds of releases are described: airborne and liquid effluents. The contamination sources generate radiation exposures. Our Republican Standards establishing dose equivalent limits for personnel and population at the nuclear plant site boundary, and the derived release limits for radionuclides are presented, comparatively with data obtained from CANDU reactors experience.
