Fiber materials based on amine-containing copolymer Eudragit® for radioanalytical applications

The physicochemical properties of fine fiber materials Eudragit® [amine-containing methylbutyl methacrylate copolymer Eudragit E (Ed-E) and quaternary salt dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate quaternary salt copolymer Eudragit RS (Ed-RS)] were studied in radionuclide adsorption and flocculation for radioanalytical applications. The ultrafine fibers of Eudragit® were prepared by electrospinning from Ed-E and Ed-RS solutions. Here, we report data on interactions of radionuclides, such as 233U, 239Pu, 241Am, 152,154Eu, 90Sr, and 90Y, with Ed-E and Ed-RS in 5 g/l sodium nitrate, sulfate, and carbonate solutions. The copolymer Ed-E was shown to be a scavenger of 233U, 239Pu, 241Am, and 152,154Eu in trace quantities. Flocculation experiments demonstrated that coprecipitation of Ed-E together with Am(III) and Eu(III) allows the separation of this pair in a 200 g/l NaNO3 solution.
