Description
Highlights: • Activation volume based criteria derived for predicting formation of shear bands. • Typical change in texture upon formation of shear bands validates the criteria. • Correlation between rate controlling mechanism and shear banding is highlighted. • Proposed criteria can link shear banding tendency with microstructural features.
