Applications of tungsten coated materials for divertor and first wall materials

Description
W-coated carbon tile and W-coated reduced activation ferritic / martensitic (RAF/M) steel have been fabricated and have been investigated to apply as the divertor and the first wall/blanket. The W-coated carbon tiles have been exposed to hydrogen divertor plasma discharges in the LHD. No exfoliation and cracks have been observed on the tiles. Detail surface analyses are now underway. On the other hand, tungsten has been successfully coated on RAF/M steel (F82H) substrate by plasma spraying technique. Surface morphology of the deposited W and adhesion property between the substrate and the coatings have been investigated by SEM/TEM/EDS and XRD. In addition, microstructure and phase transformation behavior of F82H on the interface before and after heat treatment have been observed by OIM. (author)
