Technique for comparative wear resistance tests of worm wheels

Description

Technique for the evaluation of the wear of worm-wheels of metal-working machines by the surface activation method is described. The degree of the wear has been evaluated by the fall of the intensity of the radiation of the activated section which gets worn out together with a studied friction surface. The radioactive section has been obtained by its bombardment with accelerated charged particles at 12.5 MeV. The dependence of the radioactivity of an activated detail on the wear has been obtained by simulation, the dependence determining the accuracy and reliability of measurements. The efficiency of the practical application of this technique in industry is stressed. A set of measuring instruments used for studying wear is recommended
