Radioactive pollution caused by the Ile-Saint-Denis (93) former site of radium production: synthesis of investigations performed by the IRSN

Description

An industrial site has been used between 1913 and 1928 to extract radium, and then by completely different activities. An investigation performed in 1997-1998 on this site revealed a radiological pollution due to this radium-related activity. This document reports recent radiological investigations comprising surface radioactivity measurements, soil sample radioactivity analyses, water quality analysis of aquifers, and radon measurements in existing buildings. Results are briefly discussed and some recommendations are formulated about the site evolution and control
