On the thermally activated crack propagation in alumina

Description
Subcritical crack growth was studied in the temperature 25-1000C in two commercial aluminas containing different amounts of a glassy phase. The experimental method employed was that of double torsion under constant load, using a device specially built to carry out mechanical tests at constant compressive load and high temperatures. Activation enthalpies of subcritical crack growth were determined for the two materials. (Author)

Estuda-se a propagacao subcritica de trincas nas temperaturas 25-1000C em duas aluminas comerciais contendo diferentes quantidades de fase vitrea. Usou-se o metodo experimental da torcao dupla sob carga constante, usando um aparelho especialmente construido para fazer os testes mecanicos a carga compressiva constante e alta temperatura. Determinou-se para dois materiais a entalpia de ativacao da propagacao subcritica de trincas. Desenvolveu-e um modelo cinetico-termodinamico para descrever os resultados quantitativamente.
