SSC superconducting magnet development
Description
The two rings of the SCC main collider consist of 8460 dipole and 1664 quadrupole magnets, as well as a large number of correction coils. The high energy booster has 432 dipole and 278 quadrupole magnets of a design similar to the main collider magnets. The development of these magnets is being carried out by a collaboration of the SSC Lab, Fermilab, Brookhaven National Lab and Lawrence Berkely Lab. Initial development magnets had a 40 mm aperture, while the final design has a 50 mm aperture. In this paper the status of the development of the 50 mm dipoles and the test results from the first 1 m models are presented. In addition a summary of the test results from the earlier series of 40 mm models are given
