Wear of TiB2 coatings

Description
The wear properties of electrodeposited coatings of TiB2 in low speed (5 cm s-1) and high speed (30 m s-1) sliding applications in contact with hardened steel are reported. An improved method for the preparation of these coatings is described. The effects of sliding speed, lubrication and substrate material of the coating were investigated. The microhardness of some of the coatings was measured. The results indicate that the TiB2 coating compares favourably with single-crystal Al2O3 in unlubricated high speed applications. (Auth.)
