An air-filled GM counter as an educational tool and its use at senior high school
Description
A Yano-Yonemura type air-filled Geiger-Meuller tube which operates at about 4 kV, having poor resolution but rather high sensitivity, and which is capable of detecting alpha-particles was fabricated. It was found suitable as an educational material for use for one of the 2-hours group experiments in Physics IB' course at senior high school of Japan. Detailed instruction for the fabrication is given, together with some results of the measurement of beta-rays from potassium and also alpha-rays from thorium. (S. Ohno)
