This hearing of the chairman of the French nuclear safety authority, the ASN, outlined that decisions must be taken, and that, otherwise, consequences of a lack of decision could be irreversible by 2035 or 2040. These lacks of decision concern the question of the extension of the exploitation duration of the 900 MW fleet, the risk of a cliff effect in 2035-2040, the anticipation of the energy policy, the choice of a steerable energy which will integrate the future French landscape, the development of a new nuclear energy and the situation of the EPR and EPR2 projects, the solutions for the waste issue, the visibility of the French industrial tissue. Some positive aspects have also been outlined: a very good safety assessment in 2020 within the context created by the health crisis, the good knowledge and know-how regarding dismantling activities.
