Study of beat-wave growth and saturation

  • 1. Physics Department and Institute for Fusion Studies, University of Texas, Austin, Texas 78712

Description

We present a particle simulation study of the growth and saturation process of the plasma wave driven by the beating of laser beams and compare the results with theoretical calculations. The observed saturation time and amplitude are in fair agreement with these calculations. The spectrum of plasma waves at the fundamental wavelength k/sub p/ and harmonics nk/sub p/ is also studied. A possible interpretation of the spectral shape is discussed in terms of the wave steepening
