Isotopes and ungulates

Creators

Description

Apart from their world-famed tourist attraction, South Africa's national game reserves contribute to the scientific knowledge of African fauna. A little-known recent project involves the carbon isotope analysis of the skeletal remains of the parks' animals, in which the grazing/browsing habits of ungulates are being investigated. Bones of fossil animals can similarly be used to study changes in the palaeo-environment
