Space shuttle programme and possible coordination with EISCAT

Creators

Description

The EISCAT facility will not be available in time to participate in the IMS programme. However the Space Shuttle project will provide tasks which may prove useful for EISCAT. The history, time schedule and technical description of the Space Shuttle are briefly treated and possible experiments are outlined. The role of coordination with EISCAT for calibration purposes in polar wind observations, field aligned currents, low energy particle spectra and ion composition measurements is discussed. It is also possible that the Space Shuttle may supplement EISCAT observations by providing spatial patterns for thermal plasma parameters, electric fields and current densities. Finally coordination with rocket measurements in the AMPS programme is briefly treated. (JIW)
