Lifetime measurements by the recoil path method. Application to the yrast states of 154Er
Description
Lifetimes of high spin yrast states in 154Er have been measured, using the recoil distance method. The special mode of feeding occuring through (heavy ion, xn) reactions has lead to write an analysis code (code BACLE) which allows the extraction of lifetimes of levels within a cascade that contains at most ten levels and for fifteen different targets to plunger distances. This code uses Bateman equations, in order to calculate the population of nuclei having a defined excited state, and also uses a non linear fitting procedure. The strengths of E2 transitions have been found of the same order of magnitude than the Weisskopf estimates. The experimental results about the nucleus 154Er are discussed within the framework of the 'oblate coupling scheme' of A. Bohr and B.R. Mottelson

Les vies moyennes des niveaux yrast de fort moment angulaire du noyau 154Er, ont ete mesurees par la methode du parcours de recul. Le mecanisme particulier des reactions (ion lourd, xn) a necessite la mise au point d'un programme d'analyse (programme BACLE) qui permet d'extraire les vies moyennes d'une cascade comprenant jusqu'a dix niveaux et pour quinze positions differentes de plunger. Ce programme utilise les equations de Bateman pour calculer la population de noyaux dans un etat excite determine, et fait appel a un procede d'ajustement non lineaire. Les forces des transitions electromagnetiques (E2) sont trouvees proches des estimations Weisskopf. L'ensemble des resultats experimentaux sur le noyau 154Er est discute dans le cadre du schema de couplage 'oblate' propose par A. Bohr et B.R. MottelsonFiles
