Description
A brief outline review is presented of the very limited range of medically useful photon emitting radionuclides with prevailing γ-energies in the most desirable energy range for single photon emission computed tomography and suitable for labelling metabolic analogue tracers, the most promising being sup(99m)Tc and 123I. Compounds labelled with 75Se, sup(117m)Sn, 67Ga, 77Br, 75Br, 18F are also mentioned. Fatty acid analogues, sugars, amino acids, proteins, steroids and amines are reviewed, together with their application to studies of the heart, brain, pancreas, adrenals, tumours, thrombosis and liver.
