The delta13C values the Picea abies xylem are the same (-24.6 per mile +- 0.2 per mile) in individuals tolerant and sensitive to SO2, resp. This view is supported by results of determination of the delta13C values of cellulose and lignin. The values of lignin are in both groups more negative (2.3 - 2.4 per mile) than those of cellulose
