Present status of nuclear power safety studies in JAERI. 1981 ed.
Description
Efforts have been exerted in various countries for the research and development of new energy sources, and the conservation of resources and energy. Among new energy sources, only nuclear fission energy has been put in practical use, and it is necessary to improve the reliability and safety of nuclear reactor facilities and to establish the nuclear fuel cycle from the securing of nuclear fuel to the reprocessing and the treatment and disposal of radioactive wastes. Also it is important to evaluate and confirm the safety accompanying the nuclear fuel cycle. The Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute has promoted the systematic and demonstrative research in both fields of nuclear reactor safety and environmental safety. The research on the safety has been recognized as the subject in common with all countries concerned, and bilateral and multilateral international cooperations have been carried out. The outline of safety research in JAERI, the behavior of fuel in the normal operation and accident of reactors, the behavior of pressure boundary material and structural material, the technological safety test on loss of coolant accident, the evaluation of the safety analysis for nuclear facilities, the evaluation of environmental radioactivity and the treatment and disposal of radioactive wastes are reported.
