Description

Significant progress has been made approaching Superheavy Elements predicted for Z=114. The heaviest element identified unambiguously at present, element 112, is already close to that region. The exciting physics result of heavy-element research is the discovery of a shell stabilized region located at Z = 108 and N = 162 which interconnects the trans-uranium region and the spherical superheavy elements. Recently the creation of elements 114 and 118 has been reported. In this paper a brief overview on experimental results and heavy element research will be given and discussed in the light of the experimental data. (author)
