Machine for removal the spacer wire of nuclear fuel pins

Description

The fuel pin is gradually passed through the central passage of two rotating pieces, each of which having a serie of holes through which the wire passes. The front of the first piece is in the form of a cutting mill to strip the wire of any welds. The wire is sheared off by the independent rotating action of the two pieces

Abstract (French)

Machine pour enlever le fil espaceur d'une aiguille de combustible nucleaire. L'aiguille est poussee a travers les passages centraux d'une premiere et d'une deuxieme pieces tournantes. La premiere de ces pieces comporte une partie constituee comme une fraise pour detacher les points de soudure du fil sur l'aiguille. Au fur et a mesure que cette derniere avance, le fil passe dans des trous de la premiere piece tournante et des trous de la deuxieme. Ces deux pieces tournant a des vitesses differentes le fil est coupe par cisaillement. Application au retraitement des combustibles irradies de reacteurs nucleaires a neutrons rapides
