Current trends of 137Cs concentrations in coastal waters near the Fukushima Daiichi NPP

  • 1. Sophia University, Tokyo (Japan). Department of Material and Life Sciences, Faculty of Science and Technology

Description

Temporal changes of 137Cs concentrations in coastal waters near the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant (FDNPP) were examined until January 2015. The 137Cs concentrations in coastal waters gradually decreased till the end of 2014. Sporadic high 137Cs concentrations in coastal waters, exceeding 1 kBq m-3, were observed in 2014. A possible pathway of 137Cs in coastal waters may be due to direct discharges of contaminated water, including rainwater sweeping roofs of FDNPP. (author)
