Functional diversity in the Sizewell B design: implications for the setting of operational safety goals
Description
In order to defend against dependent failures the Sizewell B design incorporates diversity on a systematic basis using probabilistic criteria. The paper overviews the effect of this diversity strategy on the substantiation of the safety case for Sizewell B. It reviews the implications of the use of diversity for the operation of the station, and the lessons learnt relevant to the future development and licensing of station designs. (author)
