Description

A spectrophotometric investigation on cysteamine-protected and γ-irradiated DNA solutions is reported. DNA melting curves of non-irradiated and irradiated solutions of DNA + cysteamine were compared. In the low dose range (0-20 Gy) the radioprotective effect of cysteamine was complete when the DNA phosphate sites were well compensated. The influence of cysteamine concentration on its radioprotective role, is discussed concerning a fixed radiation dose of 72 Gy
