Gamma-ray linear polarization as a method for assigning spins

Gamma-ray linear polarization measurements have long been used as a method for establishing the relative parity of two states linked by a gamma transition. The way in which they can be useful in resolving spin ambiguities occurring in angular distribution studies of in-beam gamma rays is illustrated for 78Kr. 4 figures
