Some comments about the use of J1 integral criterion
Description
Use of J1 integral criterion in Post Yield Fracture Mechanics is considered. If J1 is path independent, it can be considered as a crack tip singularity characterization and then, as a good criterion for crack initiation. But it is not proved that J1 is path independent in general case. The current practice is to consider a material with a mechanical potential energy, it is to say to suppose that strain energy W is only function of the state of strain, but not of the loading history. It is possible to introduce the defect vector concept (or driving force). The resultants of defect vectors included inside a volume are the surface integrals J vector and L vector. So the general condition for J1 path indepedence can be written. It seems that J1 is path independent for radial loading but the question is still open for more complex ways of loading. L'emploi de J1 comme critere en mecanique de la rupture non elastique est examine. Si J1 ne depend pas du contour on peut considerer qu'il caracterise bien la singularite du front de fissure, donc qu'il est un bon critere d'initiation. Mais il n'est pas prouve que J1 soit independant du contour dans tous les cas. D'habitude, on considere des materiaux presentant un potentiel mecanique, c'est-a-dire on admet que le travail mecanique W n'est fonction que de l'etat de deformation, mais pas de l'histoire du chargement. On peut introduire le vecteur defaut (ou la force motrice). La resultante des vecteurs defauts compris dans un volume sont les integrales de surface vecteur J et vecteur L. Il est alors possible d'ecrire la condition generale d'independance de J1. Il semble que J1 est independant du contour pour les chargements radiaux, mais la question est ouverte pour les trajets de chargements plus compliques.
