Progress of theoretical and simulation studies on resistive wall mode stabilization by plasma rotation

Description
With a focus on instability called resistive wall mode (RWM), this paper introduced the progress of theoretical research aimed at elucidating the stabilization mechanism based on plasma rotation. The initial theory was the theory that was described with 'ideal' magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) and, in addition, when there was no rotation. Subsequently, a paper followed, where tokamak coordination was numerically solved by incorporating the effect of equilibrium plasma rotation onto the linearized resistive MHD equation. Experimental results could be well explained with this paper. Next, a kinetic MHD theory corresponding to the RWM stabilization experiment result based on low plasma rotation appeared. In addition, a kinetic MHD theory including the effect of rotation was expanded. A model focusing on the effect of rotation shear and the effect of high-energy particles was proposed and the experiments are proceeding. This paper has mentioned linear theory, but nonlinear MHD simulation and the elucidation of RWM saturation level are separate important research subjects. As an important research theme in future high-performance tokamak research, the construction of a simplified model from a detailed formulation and its use for disruption prediction can be pointed out. 本解説では,抵抗性壁モード(RWM:Resistive Wall Mode)と呼ばれる不安定性について,プラズマ回転による安定化機構の解明に向けた理論研究の進展について紹介する.本課題に関する理論は,磁気流体力学(MHD:Magnetohydrodynamic)方程式を用いた研究から始まり,実験の進展とともに運動論的MHD方程式が広く用いられるようになった.運動論的MHD理論による解析では,MHD揺動(ここではRWM)と運動論効果(粒子運動の効果)との相互作用が重要な役割を果たす.運動論的MHD理論では,運動論効果を総圧力テンソルの揺動に埋め込んでいる.古くから用いられてきた理論モデルであるが,回転がある場合の拡張について,最近の進展について述べる.また,これら理論は実験研究とともに発展してきたため,一部実験研究の成果についても触れる.(著者)Additional details
