Cooperation potential within new organization of Chekmece Nuclear Research and Training Center
Description
Full text: Chekmece Nuclear Research and Training Center (CHNAEM) was formally established in 1962. Turkey's first research reactor (TR-1), a pool-type 1 MW reactor at CHNAEM site, went critical in 1962. Now TR-2, a pool-type 5 MW reactor, is in operation. CHNAEM as a subsidiary of TAEA is charged to perform Rand D activities on the whole area of nuclear science and technology, such as; Activities on reactor and fuel cycle: operation of research reactor, studies on technological and economic aspects of power reactors and nuclear fuel cycle, safety analysis of research and power reactors, experience development of technological capability required for the production of power reactor fuel, fuel design, and performance analysis, studies on nuclear materials, researches using accelerator (neutron production). Activities on nuclear instrument: nuclear electronics, manufacture of radiation measurement devices (survey meters, lab monitors, etc), development and manufacture of detectors for use in the Network of Radiation Early Warning System (RESA), calibration of radiation measurement instruments (SSDL). Activities on radiation, measurement and services: radiation protection, radiation monitoring around of Istanbul, indoor radon measurements, radiobiology, radiation cytogenetics (biodosimetry), processing and storage of radioactive waste from hospitals and the industry, radioisotope production and dispensing, radiopharmaceutical diagnostic kits (MDP for bone, DTPA for kidney), analysis of all kind of uranium and thorium, radioactivity analysis of food products and environmental samples (water, sediment, soil, and biota), non-destructive testings. Within 2006, the center has been re-organized in all departments and divisions for focusing resources and capabilities on more nuclear-related activities. Potential cooperation fields between CHNAEM and other institutions are as follows: Radioactivity analysis in environmental samples by gamma spectrometry (MCA), beta and alpha counting methods, indoor radon measurements, radiobiology, core conversion of research reactor, accelerator utilization, characterization of UO2 based nuclear material, development of radiation measurement instrument, processing and storage of low level radioactive waste, radiopharmaceutical cool kits, gammagraphy and ultrasonic. In this presentation situations of these activities will be explained in detail
