Thermodynamics of lattice QCD
Description
Numerical calculation of the path integral is a nonperturbative approach well suited for the study of QCD at high temperatures. This approach is nonperturbative, and naturally gives the behavior at nonzero temperature. However, it is largely limited to the computation of equilibrium quantities at zero net baryon density. Within these limitations, much progress has been made. This talk will review what is known about the phase diagram of lattice QCD as a function of temperature and masses of the quarks. The author discusses the status and importance of scaling relations for a second order transition, and progress toward calculating the equation of state of QCD at zero chemical potential. Finally, the author discusses the systematic errors afflicting these calculations and the prospects for improving them
