A study on reduction of exposure dose and protection of the patient in X-ray diagnosis in Korea

Description

This study was investigated radiation protection and radiation doses of the patients in X-ray diagnosis in South Korea. The questionnairing was conducted on 200 medical facilities. An answer of 187 facilities (93.5%) was provided. Of all facilities, radiation protection for outside of exposure field was executed in 90.4%, limitation of exposure field in 79.7% of facilities, gonad protection in all examples in 12.8%. Uniformity examination with light beam and X-ray beam by a movable diaphragm was executed regularly in 5.3% of facilities. The leak test of X-rays was executed regularly in 59% of facilities. In case of radiography of infants, mother and other companions were made to wear radiation protector in 36.2%. X-rays apparatus was completely managed by the department of radiology in 27.3% and the safekeeping of X-ray films in 68.5%. (K.H.)
