The instability of growth of a through-wall crack in a piping system when other cracks are present

A theoretical analysis shows that if several circumferential cracks are present in a stainless steel piping system, the tendency towards instability of circumferential growth of a given crack is no greater than for the case where the given crack is present in isolation. (author)
