Mass spectrometer

Description

The mass spectrometer according to the invention is characterized by a structure comprising an enclosure and plates defining a zone for the deflection of charged particles towards collecting members, a generator adapted to generate an electric or magnetic field in said zone for compelling the charged particles to follow paths so that they are collected through an inlet whatever their initial velocities, the positions of the points of impact being related only to the charge/mass ratio of the particles. A mass spectrometer according to the invention is suitable e.g., for determining the distribution of charges, masses and energis, as well as the elements constituting a substance converted into a plasma by a laser pulse

Abstract (French)

Un spectrometre de masse selon l'invention est caracterise par une structure comportant une enveloppe et des plaques definissant une region pour la deviation des particules chargees vers des points collecteurs, un generateur pour etablir dans cette region un champ electrique ou un champ magnetique provoquant des trajectoires pour des particules chargees, pour que les particules soient collectees independamment de leur vitesse initiale a travers une entree, les points d'arrivee dependant seulement du rapport entre la charge et la masse des particules. Un spectrometre de masse selon l'invention convient en particulier pour determiner la distribution des charges des masses et des energies ainsi que les elements composant une matiere convertie en un plasma par une impulsion de laser
