Nuclear submarine decommissioning and disposal: an overview of the issues, practices, and economics surrounding the disposal of nuclear submarines

Description

This paper reviews the key aspects of the disposal of nuclear-powered submarines. Having briefly outlined what a nuclear-powered submarine is, the paper considers the broad disposal options and discusses some of the fundamental decisions that need to be made. The paper describes the practices of the nuclear navies (where known) and concludes with a simple analysis of the economics of disposal. (author)
