Description
Strengthening character as well as phase and structural transformations in 45 steel martensite under effect of intense shock waves (SW), excited by megavolt high-current electron beam (HCEB) with the power density of up to 1011 W/cm2 are investigated. Microhardness measurements have shown that as a result of irradiation in the given regime as well as under effect of low-energy (HCEB), a hardened zone is produced. A conclusion is made that the total effect of high temperatures and pressures leads finally to the production of a thermostable high strength structure. 6 refs., 3 figs
