Role of Ce2+ ions in luminescence of cerium fluorides

Description

Pulsed cathodoluminescence (PCL) of CeF3 crystals was studied, the results are presented. PCL was excited by bombarding samples in the air at room temperature using a 170 keV pulsed electron beam of 2-ns duration, current density of 160 A/cm2, and repetition rate of 2.5 Hz. Luminescence and phosphorescence were observed in the UV and visible spectral regions. The phosphorescence is tentatively associated with the Ce2+ ion formation

Abstract (Russian)

Приводятся результаты исследования импульсной катодолюминесценции (ИКЛ) кристаллов CeF3. ИКЛ возбуждалась при облучении образцов в воздухе при комнатной температуре электронным пучком длительностью 2 нс при энергии электронов 170 кэВ, плотности тока 160 А/см2 и частоте следования 2.5 Гц. Обнаружены люминесценция и фосфоресценция в ультрафиолетовой и видимой области спектра. Предполагается, что фосфоресценция связана с образованием ионов Се2+
