A polarization model for 12 Lacertae
Description
Recent evidence suggests that radial pulsation can explain most of the variability in the majority of β Cephei stars. However, in some of these stars nonradial modes may also be present, suggesting a link with the recently identified 53 Persi class of variables. Notable in this respect in the large amplitude β Cephei variable 12 Lacertae. The observation of a variable photospheric polarization would provide a conclusive demonstration for existence of nonradial modes in this star. Results of calculations to determine the magnitude of the variable polarization effect using the most likely nonradial mode geometry for 12 Lacertae are presented
