Description
FLiNaK has the potential to be a candidate salt for next generation nuclear reactor coolants. Corrosion of structural metals has however been recognized as an issue in FLiNaK. Corrosion experiments of SS-316L, Inconel 625 and Hastelloy-B alloys were performed in FLiNaK with the aim of understanding the corrosion characteristics. The tests were carried out at 650 ℃ in graphite crucibles for 60 hours under nitrogen atmosphere. Weight loss of alloys due to corrosion was measured and corrosion rate was estimated. The chemical compositions of the alloys were analyzed by AES before testing. After corrosion testing, analytical techniques like SEM, and ICP-AES were performed for morphology and chemical composition of FLiNaK. (author)
