Description
The intermetallic ytterbium compounds YbZnSn, YbPdSn, YbAuIn and their calcium-substituted counterparts YbCaZnSn, YbCaPdSn and YbCaAuIn were synthesized by reaction of the elements in sealed tantalum tubes in an induction furnace. The samples were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction. Their static, temperature-dependent solid-state Yb NMR spectra exhibit strong positive Knight shifts without any significant temperature dependence. The resonance shifts including anisotropy parameters for the ternary compounds have been determined.
