Determination of residual gases in nuclear materials by vacuum fusion
Description
The presence of residual gases (hydrogen, nitrogen and oxygen) in nuclear materials considerably affects their mechanical and thermal properties. This problem has stimulated the development of precise and efficient methods of analysis, applicable to the determination and quality control of impurities in these materials. The most suitable technique for this purpose is high vacuum fusion. The feasibility of the method was checked with steel, Zircaloy and nuclear fuel samples. The results experimentally determined are in good agreement with the specified values. (Author)

A presenca de gases residuais (hidrogenio, oxigenio e nitrogenio), em combustiveis ceramicos, metais e ligas usados em reatores nucleares, altera sensivelmente as propriedades termicas e mecanicas destes materiais. Com o objetivo de proceder ao seu controle de qualidade, sao necessarias tecnicas analiticas que permitam determinar estes elementos com precisao e exatidao. A tecnica baseada na fusao sob vacuo esta entre aquelas que apresentam melhores resultados. Para comprovar a sua eficiencia, foram analisados padroes de aco, tubos de zircaloy e combustiveis ceramicos. Os resultados obtidos encontram-se dentro dos valores especificados. (Autor)Files
