On the polarization rotation by means of electromagnetically induced transparency

Description

The limitations on the effect of electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) imposed by the degeneracy of atomic levels are considered. The dependence of the EIT-induced polarization rotation of the weak probe field on the characteristics of the resonant transitions and that of the control field is studied. The conditions for the 90-rotation without absorption are discussed. (letter)
