Finite-β stabilization of the universal drift instability: revisited
Description
The stabilization of the universal drift instability due to finite β effects (i.e., electromagnetic coupling and delB orbit modifications) is studied numerically and a marginal stability curve (as a function of β and k) is presented. It is found that the most difficult modes to stabilize have arbitrarily small wavenumbers and the critical value of β is β/sub cr/ approx. =0.135 for T/sub e/ = T/sub i/
