The book 'Atomic age without nuclear power' summarizes the story of the attempts of nuclear power introduction in Denmark in the 1954-1985 period. Especially emphasized is the establishment of the Atomic Energy Commission and Risoe National laboratory in the fifties. The Danish electric utilities tried to introduce nuclear power plants in the 70ties, but their proposals met a firm opposition. History of the Danish attempts is set on an international background. Particularly the great American Manhattan Project is considered to have become a model for the post-war large nuclear projects in the entire Western world. This book is inspired by the historical concept of modern technology being a product of the economic, organizational, political and cultural factors. The Danish 'no' to nuclear power was due in a certain degree to the strong antinuclear organizations, but there were other elements of the national energy policy as well that prevented the introduction of nuclear power.
