Determination of traces of cobalt in rocks using continuous in-line precipitation and atomic-absorption detection

Description

A continuous preconcentration flame atomisation atomic absorption method for determining cobalt by precipitation with 1-nitroso-2-naphtol is described. The sample treatments, dissolution of cobalt-nitrosonaphtholate, optimization of analytical variables and measurable concentration levels where investigated. The sensivity, selectivity, rapidity and precision of the conventional batch method are significantly enhanced. The proposed method has been successfully applied to the determination of cobalt at the μ g-1 level in silicate rocks. (author)

Abstract (Portuguese)

Um metodo para determinacao de cobalto por precipitacao continua com 1-nitroso-2-naftol e deteccao por espectroscopia de absorcao atomica e descrito. Procedimentos de tratamento das amostras de rochas, dissolucao do nitrossonaftolato de cobalto, otimizacao das variaveis analiticas e medida de baixas concentracoes de cobalto foram investigados. Em relacao aos procedimentos manuais, a metodologia automatica desenvolvida possui sensibilidade, seletividade, precisao alem de rapidez. O metodo proposto foi aplicado com sucesso na analise de padroes internacionais de rochas. (autor)
