Fuel for nuclear power and manufacturing method therefor

Description

The present invention promotes deposition and fixation of radioactivity in reactor water to zirconium liner fuels in a BWR type reactor to prevent fuel degradation due to impurities in reactor water. Oxidation treatment is carried out in high temperature steams or in an atmosphere containing oxygen until monoclinic zirconium is formed on the outer surface of a zircaloy cladding tube to form fine unevenness having a size of not greater than 1μm on the surface. According to the present invention, the deposition and fixation of radioactivity in reactor water to the zirconium liner fuels is promoted. As a result, the concentration of radioactivity in the reactor water in a BWR type plant can be reduced, thereby enabling to suppress corrosion of cladding tubes due to impurities in reactor water.
