Description

The passage of Ne ions through various shieldings was investigated using plastic nuclear track detectors. The detectors were exposed to perpendicularly incident Ne ions 400 MeV/n primary energy on a HIMAC heavy ion accelerator. PMMA, polyethylene, graphite, Fe, Cu, and Al of various thicknesses served as the shielding materials. The results including attenuation of the primary ions in dependence on the shielding type and thickness, linear energy transfer spectra, and contributions of the various fragments and particles to the total dose are described.
