Communication Received from the United States of America Concerning Its Policies Regarding the Management of Plutonium
Description
The Secretariat has received a letter dated 13 October 2010 from the Permanent Mission of the United States of America to the IAEA in the enclosures of which the Government of the United States of America, in keeping with its commitment under the Guidelines for the Management of Plutonium (contained in INFCIRC/549 of 16 March 1998 and hereinafter referred to as the 'Guidelines'), and in accordance with Annexes B and C of the Guidelines, has made available annual figures for holdings of civil unirradiated plutonium and the estimated amounts of plutonium contained in spent civil reactor fuel as of 31 December 2009. The Permanent Mission of the United States has also communicated in its letter that there have been recent changes in its plutonium and fuel cycle policy to replace the statement, and has included a Revised Plutonium and Fuel Cycle Policy Statement provided with the report submitted by the United States for 2007.
Abstract (French)
Le Secretariat a recu de la mission permanente des Etats-Unis d'Amerique aupres de l'AIEA une lettre en date du 13 octobre 2010 accompagnee de pieces jointes dans lesquelles le gouvernement des Etats-Unis d'Amerique, conformement a l'engagement qu'il a pris en vertu des Directives relatives a la gestion du plutonium (figurant dans le document INFCIRC/549 du 16 avril 1998 et denommees ci-apres les ), et aux annexes B et C des Directives, communique les statistiques annuelles des quantites de plutonium civil non irradie et les quantites estimees de plutonium contenu dans du combustible irradie dans des reacteurs civils qu'il detenait au 31 decembre 2009. La mission permanente des Etats-Unis a aussi fait savoir dans sa lettre que la politique nationale relative au plutonium et au cycle du combustible avait ete recemment modifiee et y a joint un enonce revise de ladite politique pour mettre a jour celui communique avec le rapport soumis par les Etats-Unis pour 2007.
