Radiation effects on the structure, physical and mechanical properties of rubber/inorganic nano composites
- 1. National Center for Radiation Research and Technology (NCRRT), Cairo (Egypt)
Description
Ethylene-propylene-diene rubber (EPDM/ nano-filler) composites were prepared and crosslinked by gamma radiation. The used nano fillers are Zirconium silicate, Fumed silica, modified CeO2 and modified montmorillonite. The effect of nano fillers content and irradiation dose on the mechanical (tensile strength, elongation at break), electrical (Volume resistivity) and thermal properties of the γ-irradiated EPDM rubber nano composites is investigated. The results obtained for the various properties indicated that the mechanical, thermal and electric properties of the EPDM rubber nano composites have been improved, indicating that high temperature resistant polymer-nano composites were obtained. Addition of the N, N-m-phenylenedi maleimide co agent resulted in improve in the physical and thermal properties of the γ-irradiated EPDM rubber nano composites due to the enhancement of radiation crosslinking density
