Measurement of partial spontaneous fission half-lives of actinide by use of mica detectors

  • 1. Japan Atomic Energy Research Inst., Tokai, Ibaraki (Japan). Tokai Research Establishment

Description

Precise determination of partial spontaneous fission half-lives of actinide nuclides is very important for not only studying their stability but also verifying criticality safety and neutron shielding of spent nuclear fuels. Numbers of the spontaneous fission events were absolutely counted by use of mica detectors, and performance of a method for measurement of the partial half-lives was confirmed applying the method to 242Cm. Application to other actinide nuclides was also discussed. (author)
